Incoloy 800 is a Nickel-Iron-Chromium super alloy that offers potential resistance to high temperature oxidation and carburization. It was further modified into Alloy 800H by lowering carbon content to 0.05 – 0.10 % which is further modified to 800HT by including titanium and aluminum to provide suitable high temperature characteristics.
Incoloy alloy 800 is highly resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking and embrittlement. It has moderate high temperature strength and is certainly useful for petrochemical industry that includes long term operations up to 649oC or 1200oF.
Incoloy 800 covers ASME code up to 816oC, it offers superior oxidation resistance and is significant for service at the elevated temperatures in the non-ASME coded operations.

Incoloy 825 is designed to resist a variety of vigorous corrosive media such as sulfuric and phosphoric acids, nitric acid, nitrates and oxidizing salts. It offers better aqueous corrosion resistance than alloy 800 and good resistance to chlorine based conditions. Alloy 825 contains significant magnitude of chromium and molybdenum that offer wide resistance to all magnitudes of HCl below 40oC or 100oF.
Incoloy 825 has stable austenitic structure, it significantly prevents pitting, crevice corrosion and intergranular attack. The presence of high nickel and other crucial elements such as molybdenum and copper increases resistance to various oxidizing agents. It is also authenticated for production of pressure vessels for service temperatures up to 538oC.
NiCrFe superalloy 825 has fine mechanical properties from medium to elevated temperatures. The hot processing limit for this alloy is up to 2150oF. It is easily weldable by whole traditional techniques like shielded metal arc and gas shielded metal arc welding.
Corrosion Behavior
Incoloy 825 has outstanding resistance to marine water and reducing media for example sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. As it prevents sensitization, it remains unaffected from intergranular attack.

Super alloys or high performance alloys have high creep and oxidation resistance. They can be strengthened by solid-solution hardening, work hardening, and precipitation hardening. They can be used in environments with high temperatures and mechanical stress, and also where high surface stability is required. There are three groups of alloys such as cobalt-based, nickel-based, and iron-based alloys.
Incoloy(r) alloy 925™ is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-iron-chromium alloy. It can be age-hardened by adding aluminum and titanium. On the other hand, copper and molybdenum are added to increase its resistance to corrosive media. The datasheet given below discusses about Incoloy(r) alloy 925™ in detail.
Incoloy(r) alloy 925™ can be machined using conventional machining methods which are used for iron based alloys. Tooling and heavy duty machining equipments are used to reduce work-hardening of this alloy. Machining operations can be performed by using commercial coolants. High speed operations such as grinding, turning, or milling, are usually performed using water-based coolants.
FormingIncoloy(r) alloy 925™ can be easily formed using all conventional techniques. Heavy-duty lubricants are used while cold forming.
WeldingShielded metal-arc welding, gas metal-arc welding, gas-tungsten arc welding, and submerged-arc welding methods are preferred for welding Incoloy(r) alloy 925 ™.
Heat TreatmentIncoloy(r) alloy 925™ is heat treated by annealing at 983 to 1038°C (1800 to 1900°F) followed by cooling.
ForgingForging of Incoloy(r) alloy 925™ is done at 927 to 1177°C (1700 to 2150°F).
Hot WorkingIncoloy(r) alloy 925™ is hot worked at 872 to 983°C (1600 to 1800°F). Temperature should not exceed above 983°C (1800°F) in order to restore corrosion resistance of this alloy.
Cold WorkingIncoloy(r) alloy 925™ can be cold worked using standard tooling. Soft die materials such as zinc alloys and bronze are used to produce good finishing and avoid galling problems.
AnnealingIncoloy(r) alloy 925™ is annealed at 1010°C (1850°F) for 2 h followed by air cooling.
HardeningIncoloy(r) alloy 925™ is hardened by heat treatment and cold working.
Applications
